i go back to school tommorow :(.

The Best of the Best ...and the Rest :-\ - Summer 2007

Let's get down to business.

The Best
(not in any particular order)

SPIDERMAN 3: Loaded with action, humor and warmth, should have been more edgy for being the final chapter in a huge trilogy but good nonetheless, forget the haters.

Waitress: As sweet as pie and hilarious to boot. Wonderful performances, a gritty enough plot and a never to be forgotten director, RIP.

Knocked Up: The first dose of comedy from Judd Apatow this summer, a really funny movie with a good plot, tugs at your heart while still getting at the funny bone.

1408: A real mind trip. Cusack turns in another good performance. Might be too confusing for some but it was the perfect thriller for a summer with so little thrills.

Ratatouille: Not Pixar's best but still great graphics, cool setting and loveable characters.

harry 5: Simply the best yet of the series. Very dark, amazing director, and an unforgettably bitchy and juicy performance from Imelda Staunton.

hairspray: Came at the perfect time with the perfect cast. Some parts dragged esp when songs weren't powerful enough but left you dancing by the end. Pure summer fluff.

STARDUST: The BEST of the summer. Simply the whole package- Action, Horror, Drama, Romance, Comedy. And Michelle Pfiefer makes it all worth while as the most bad ass Witch since Angelica Houston in Witches so manyyyyy years ago.

superbad: The second dose of comedy from Judd Apatow. The best teen movie in years and like American Pie, manages to put both love and super sexual humor on balance. Michael Cera is a star.

honorable mentions:
28 weeks later: A really good sequel, a little over the top in the gore department.
Once: Slow but really sweet and original. Some fine music.

should have been better but not bad:
Hostel 2, Oceans 13 and Transformers.

The Poop
Pirates 3: Saved from being worse than part 2 with an ending that was good, but the first two hours of crap were unbearable.

random superbad trivia

From Entertainment Weekly: "It had a lot of titles that were bad" Says Seth Rogen(NOT pictured above), Co-Star and Writer of Superbad. "It was called The Bitter End or something stupid like that for quite some time. But we never liked any title other than Superbad, and we knew it made no sense. Don't look for meaning, it's completely arbitrary."

the new laurie strode

im not going to lie in the previews she looks rather dull but i think thats what that character needs anyway...here Scout Taylor-Compton looks gorgeous and cool on the red carpet at the premiere, there is no point in posting the other pics...its D-list city... the movies release is quickly approaching and it still seems forever away. i can't wait to see it even though i fear hating it...

britney pulled over last night

Popstar Britney Spears didn't pull over right after speeding on her way to Las Vegas last night. The Los Angeles Highway patrol officer quickly accelerated up behind her in the fast lane and put on his lights. Britney, to everyones amazement, just casually continued on her way and it took her close to one mile to finally pull over and exit the freeway, where she pulled into a gas station to see another squad car waiting and ready to intercept her. As she stopped the officers took up defensive positions with hands on their guns and torches raised whilst one slowly approached the car and identification was requested. After a quick talking to, the female officer finally realized who Britney was. Britney pleaded innocence and used the old 'paparazzi were chasing me' line. Unbelievably, she was just given a warning and sent on her way. In fact, the sternest words of the whole incident were from one of the officers towards the ever present media.

SUPERBAD

(8.5/10)

Okay let me just be corny and say it...its superGOOD. I had the pleasure of seeing this tonight after hearing about the big box office numbers that it opened with similar to KNOCKED UP. This is one of those movies that takes place in just 24 hours. It's so weird by the previews you'd think this took place in the 70's ...I'm a dumbass but it was certainly a little theme they had going on with the style and sountrack.. Seth and Evan are best friends and do everything together- talking about girls, drinking beer, all kinds of shenanigans. But could the inseperable pair accidentally caused a problem for each other by being in such a tight knit? How will they accept the future and part ways and make other friends? Thats the serious questions that this movie poses, yes believe it or not - some of this movie makes you think about that. It's very true to life in that aspect and the makers did a wonderful job in that department and I just had to get that out there. OKAY now lets get to the fun! This movie is one of the best comedies I've seen in years, let alone best teen comedy. Its true when some critics say this is the "year that judd apatow and co. saved comedy" KNOCKED UP was only a couple months ago, two solid, quality film comedies in the same summer by the same people. The plot involves them finally getting semi-aquainted with some of the cool girls and getting invited to a party since thier friend (Fogel, Fagel, Mclovin..whatever you wish to call him haha) has a fake ID and can get the booze. Well, all kinds of hell breaks loose and the night ends up being a chase for alcohol and making it to the party on time. Like I mentioned before, this movie really balances the raunchy gross out stuff with the heart that a film like this needs to work, Think American Pie. Michael Cera as Evan was by far the best performance, he is subtle in his comedy and his prescence throughout the film making his final breakout/epiphany to Seth all the more powerful. Seth (Jonah Hill) is uber-talented in comedy as he showed in 'knocked up' earlier this year but sometimes his flip-outs were a little too much, calm down bud! And of course, Christopher Mintz-Plasse lucks out with having his first role EVER becoming so memorable as the infamous Mclovin. Bill Hader and Seth Rogen play the sleezy, drunk driving cops and their pretty funny to. The girls can't go without a compliment either, they don't have the biggest roles by any means but it was nice seeing them human-like and normal unlike most the stupid girls portrayed on film, Emma Stone as Jules was so refreshing, especially when her character provides a twist that you wouldn't expect from a high school senior. So yeah all and all this movie will leave you laughing, a little emotional and and nostalgic about your own life and choices. Nearly four years later and here we now have it-- the best teen film since the edgy and sexy Mean Girls.

STARDUST

(9/10)

The biggest suprise of the summer, in all honestly. I told ya'll I read the book and it was pretty good but lets face it the preview kind of looked silly but with the cast provided it was still promising. Anyway this movie provided everything! The laughs, the tears, the magic- the works. The story focuses around Claire Danes, a star who has fallen from the sky (sound far-fetched? It is...but after about an hour, you'll be eating it up) Anyway at the same time she falls young Tristan is trying to woo his love and proclaims that he will cross the forbidden boundary between his town and the other town to get the star and bring it back. Trouble is...the kings and witches and warlocks of the magical world are all after the star to, for their own benefit...fun ensues. Really, this is what summer movies are all about- just taking you out of your life for a good few hours. This is the kind of movie that one might not even know they'd enjoy (hence the so-so box office numbers) and thats a shame because its so much better than one would expect. The number one reason to see this movie though is Michelle Pfiefer. Forget her role in 'Hairspray' this one is even more brilliant, still a villain but her comedic timing here is so much better. I was literally laughing uncontrollably to some of her parts. Deliciously evil! Some of the plot wanders occasionally (A run in with Robert Deniro as a pirate comes to mind, still comical though) but in the end the real story comes down to Tristans final battle for love and happiness with The Star and the final battle at the witches house/castle is unforgettable. I was so on edge and it will leave you with your jaw dropped. Pfiefer gets SCARYYYY. Anyway, this movie cannot be missed and especially on the big screen but sadly I don't think any of you will actually take the time to see it. Think Labyrinth, Princess Bride...its just so fun. I will say it- This was the BEST movie of Summer 2007 and it will go unseen :-\. Hopefully this will find a life on video, classic style.

hot hot hot is all i can really say. the article sounds good to...ON STANDS NEXT FRIDAY.

Britney to put the fire back into the VMAs?

Fan or foe, you must admit things haven't really been the same since B-girl parted ways with the award show back in 2003 but all that is about to change as inside sources reveal from E! and Rolling Stone that Britney Spears may be opening the show to kick off her much anticipated comeback. Leslie Sloan, Britney's former manager claims "If she is still doing it, this will be her best VMA performance yet." As any Britney fan knows, getting too excited usually leads to dissapointment so I'm going to just wait it out....but still, it sure is exciting.

vacancy is on dvd- please watch it.

rent it or somethin....its really good! the best horror movie of the year by far. topping the more successful 'disturbia' and '1408' in my opinion. those two were pg-13 so the better box office numbers make sense. watch this trailer and tell me u dont wanna see it....

FUELS NEW ALBUM

I didn't even know anything about it but stumbled upon it at the mall on tuesday and had to get it. Despite the newcomers and the hiatus they've been on its a suprisingly good cd. I wouldn't pass up the opporunity to get this, it takes you back to the old feel of the band but also brings something new. Check it out!

Essential Downloads:

-Wasted Time (G-mix)
-I Should Have Told You
-Not This Time

tour review: Beyonce

Well no I'm not going to really review it but I will say Beyonce is a fantastic performer. She certainly borrows from entertainers before her but nothing is denying that her voice is unstoppable. A true powerhouse. She manages to get through almost all songs shes done without ever letting it get boring. I'm not a fan of most of her solo work but she did a medley of all the Destinys Child hits and that was the highlight for me. I actually had good seats, these pics don't do it justice but all I had was a camera phone so go figure....

advertisement for britneys new perfume

Elizabeth Arden claims that it's Britney and only Britney who is in the picture. And I don't find it hard to believe but there is definetly lots of photoshop action going on. Hot hot, should stick with that hair as opposed to this black mess she's got going. Cool bottle, cool color...wonder if it smells good :)

words of wisdom from Kanye

E! News showed a video of Kanye West being asked about Britney Spears rumored performance on the VMA's, and he was like "I dont know we'll just have to wait and see and she has has such a strong impact on MTV, they wouldn't be where they would today without her."

Lets hope for a suprise performance everyone!! She finished shooting her video last night.

KITE RUNNER TRAILER

The fact that it is PG-13 worries me and the voice over in the trailer is kind of bothersome but on a more postive note its directed by Marc Forster who is behind the brilliance of Monsters Ball and Finding Neverland so we shall see! Take a look ..I'm already excited :)

P.S : most of the film is prob in Farsi with subtitles. My families native tongue, i guess.

"Devin, you do know Jamie Lee is a hermephrodite?"

Oh how I've been plagued over the years....well this is really cool. Over at Joblo.com they've released the top 10 hollywood urban legends and I think I can finally put my arguement to rest as Jim Law sums it up perfectly:

Was Jamie Lee Curtis born with both sexual organs? Who gives a f*ck, look at her. I've heard this for years and the only proof anyone ever comes up with is that she has a unisex name (in case the operation went wrong) and has adopted her kids. Personally, it just doesn't matter if it is true. She's one of my all-time favourite actresses and helped make the greatest horror movie ever made as unforgettable as a movie can get. And she was hot as hell in TRADING PLACES and TRUE LIES. There, I said it.

rumor or not?

i think this may be true but i dont think it went down bad like the OK! interview...apparently britney is to grace next months "allure" cover but there may be no interview to accompany the pictures:

Editor in chief Linda Wells explained in her editor's letter: "I thought we could present the profile as her comeback. Perhaps Britney's story would be redemptive, like those of Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore and Mariah Carey before her." Instead, Britney took the photos and bailed — she missed four scheduled interviews with writer Judith Newman, and the accompanying comeback story went untold. Newman instead penned a story about the state of celebrities in 2007, and Allure crafted the cover line "Britney Spears: Tells Us Nothing and Everything." <-- I like that cuz lets be honest, since when has Britney not told us nothing and everything.

two new posters

The Kite Runner poster has finally surfaced I don't know if its just a teaser but its a little too "lite" or "light" ,however you want to put it, for me. I have high hopes for this movie, its my favorite book of all time. And also, get a cool look at Nicole Kidman in the new poster for "Invasion" I was excited for this movie but as it approaches im slowly coming to the realization that it might not be too good....

britney hits a car...this is TOO funny

THEN SHE HITS THE CAR WITH HER DOOR WHEN SHE OPENS IT AND SAYS "OOP." i love herrrr.
she is sooo nice to everyone in this video- the paps, "that" fan, the clerk---ppl realize slowly that the tabloids r all false i mean look how sweet she is! ugh
..this is somethin i would do lol i always have fenders...i would have been happy to have my car hit by britney! plus it was a cedes so they prob had money to.

the return of the Reese. - RENDITION trailer

haha yesss what a cast honestly i think its the best cast ive seen in years although it might be a little too good for its own good. lol "academy winner....academy award winner.....academy award winner"..doesnt that get a little too much? anyway u got reese, jake, alan, meryl, stellan ahh...and the concept is very intriguing! enjoy! look for it this fall - oct 12th!

Meryl also has another goodie coming out with Tom Cruise and Robert Redford which looks even better called Lions for Lambs..

the two last hopes we have left.....

summer is sadly dwindling down and my dumbass mentioned the other week that Kidmans 'invasion' was the only other thing im looking forward to but my mind was a little off that day i guess....i forgot that i reallllly wanna see stardust even though im not sure of its quality- it looks like love was put into it, the cast will be easy to watch and i was a fan of the book! and as for superbad - that just has hilarious classic written all over it! think 'dazed and confused' but less dazed and more funny!

J and S

britney was out to eat with the boys the other night. real cute pics of them....thanks x17

as for britney, i think she looks great?

trailer: SYDNEY WHITE

This was just released and is getting all the myspace publicity it can get. I'm really sad to say it looks like poo besides one funny joke "Hi Hoe, Bye Hoe" its basically a modern day version of 'snow white' having Amanda Bynes play an outcast at a college who befriends the 7 dorks. Well shame shame this looks like crap esp for a college movie! Did filmmakers not learn ANYTHING from 'mean girls'. Tiny Fey- where are you? This looks like on par with BRATZ just really unfunny. Yeah 'shes the man' had its share of cheese but it wasn't that bad at all. Better luck next time Amanda, atleast you had 'hairspray' recently, you can't win them all.
On the other hand, Mean Girls was a pretty cheesy trailer...and it ended up a classic...hmm no I'm voting bad on this one. See for yourself though:

Who Snubbed Who: Victoria Beckham or "That Mess" Britney Spears?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Jennifer Cox
Aug 2, 2007

Why would Britney Spears snub anyone? According to a report from the New York Daily News Brit snubbed Victoria Beckham last Tuesday, "Britney Spears turned up at the Chateau and the only table available was the one next to Posh," a spy tells Gatecrasher in an item published on Thursday.

Who Snubbed Who: Victoria Beckham or "That Mess" Britney Spears?

"But Britney didn't want to sit next to her, so she and her friend stormed off to Il Sole instead." That runs the exact opposite of the way the story was first reported. An item from Closer Magazine told a different story.

***

A fellow diner claimed: "Britney walked in and sat next to Victoria and David. Victoria was fuming and got up, practically dragging David with her. “She told staff it was ridiculous to think she’d want to be near ‘that mess’ Britney. “It’s not a good move for anyone."

Who to believe? Posh definitely has the better overheard quote. Gatecrasher also has this: Sources say Victoria has made herself unpopular with management of the celeb-friendly, press-shy Chateau Marmont. "She always lets the paparazzi know when she'll be arriving," wags a West Coast tongue. "The Chateau Marmont tries to give celebs their privacy, and they hate her there."

RECOGNIZE THE GIRL TO THE LEFT??

Well me to! And I had to go crazy and find out well....she played mini-jenny in forest gump! and she was in The Virgin Suicides which I havent watched in forever...this girl is actually older than me but shes got such a mysterious face that hasn't really changed since she was younger. Anyway she plays the slaughtered-sister-to-be Judith Myers in the new Halloween remake. So her part is probably not too much but still...prob boobies!

sorry if HALLOWEEN updates bore you but really..what else exciting is coming out this month? a bunch of poop! and i dont want to get excited for Nicole Kidmans THE INVASION cuz watch it suck!... :-\

stupid hoe

Newcomer Taylor-Compton was also faced with the daunting prospect of stepping into the shoes of a horror icon, in her case the character of Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis in the original Halloween films). Her initial instinct was to model her performance directly after Curtis'.

"I watched the original to make sure I had Jamie Lee Curtis down because I wanted to make everything perfect and get the role," Taylor-Compton recalled. "But meeting with Rob and sitting down and talking with him about how we wanted Laurie Strode's character to go, it's definitely different. It's still Jamie, it's still Laurie. They're the same but there's definitely a little more sassy attitude towards her friends and her family."

Hmm...its still your mom....

sorry I really need to start being nice to her. what if i LIKE the movie? Anyway here is the final OFFICIAL real trailer...

Thora Birch to star in TRAIN

Thora Birch Steps Into Jamie Lee's Shoes for 'Terror Train' Remake
Posted Jul 27th 2007 5:32PM by Monika Bartyzel
Filed under: Drama, Horror, Casting, Remakes and Sequels

I'd just like to take a second to mourn what I thought would be a great career for Thora Birch. She went from a number of "eh" roles to a really breakout performance in American Beauty. A few years later, she starred in the ultra-quirky and likable Ghost World, which nabbed her a Golden Globe nod, and a chilling stint in the thriller The Hole with Keira Knightley. Sure, she had a bit part in Silver City, which was far from horror, but beyond that, it's like she made a pact with the devil to give up the non-ghoulish, non-dark cinema.

The latest in her ever-growing list -- she's signed on to star in Train, the remake of Terror Train, filling in the shoes of the ultimate Scream Queen, Jamie Lee Curtis. (Scott Weinberg first posted about the film back in April.) While that doesn't mean all hope is lost, since Curtis has some great films once she stopped screaming (although has tanked recently), it's not giving me much hope for the Birch future. It's too bad, especially considering all the crappy 20-something actresses who usually haunt the roles for young women.

*****interesting...first HALLOWEEN, then PROM NIGHT..NOW TERROR TRAIN...granted the last two weren't the best films so they could be good but theres no way they'll be good in this day and age right? sheesh...anyway, Thora is lovely and as a huge Jamie fan- I allow it ;). Hahah....

"Hey guys um...I say we scrap the word 'terror'....yeah we'll go with TRAIN...thats hot"

finally

new halloween tv spots/previews

ok these make the movie look more exciting, im honestly excited to see it...yes its in a new form but i LOVE the story. i could be critical about stuff ive seen from the previews and the semi-trashy factor of it all BUT i refuse to bash UNTIL i see the movie...its sooner than we think.

Oh, she looks good? Let's not post that picture...

honestly this is out of control to the point where i'm ashamed of the media in my country who are just so mean. and the stupid "Smart people" who make comments about her assuming that they are higher and blah blah when they are the f'n retards who believe everything they read from the junkiest magazines? yes ...believe it all. ugh...and the covers of US weekly and Life/Style this week are just appalling. I could vomit....yes the picture of her with the baby in the back i think she looks great but no one like you would ever see it..
