lets go to amsterdam!

JoBLo confirmed today that the Harold and Kumar sequel has officially begun production. I for one am really excited. No release date has been set though. Could they make it in time for August? Holler.

the reaping

*Ignore the date at the bottom of the poster, it was older and before the new date*

Hilary Swanks post-oscar scarefest a la Halle Berrys GOTHIKA is finally seeing the light of day. Being released 3/30 (A good date, Panic Room opened number 1 and made bank in the same slot five years ago) Not one DarkCastle film has ever tickled my fancy. Not one. House on haunted hill, gothic, ghost ship ,13 ghosts. I hated them all. But this story is actually very interesting with all the religious angles and I am hoping Swank can make it good.

oh mahh goodnessss

I got the Martin Season one dvd! Quite the time capsule that shows the sheer brilliance of Martin Lawrence. (when he wants to be brilliant) --Here he introduces some of his memorable characters including SHENENEH! haha. At a reasonable price of $25 this is worth a look. Especially for anyone sick of the bad youtube quality clips. Special features: a Favorite Moments Commentary and a blooper reel.

Back in Black

Shes crazy but shes looking pretty :)

some things can never be erased

9/10

I hadn't watched a little movie called TAPE(2001) in nearly five years and I was happy to see it again the other night. It is unlike any other movie out there. Starring Uma Thurman, Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard. Thats all. Just them. Three people. One setting. Twist after twist. The movie dives into parts of our psyche that we dare to enter. The secrets we keep and the denial that can haunt us forever. Three friends reunite ten years after graduating high school and some serious drama ensues. I know I know...what am I saying to you guys? This movie of all talk and one setting is good? Well, yes. See for yourself. Its funny, tragic, unpredictable and Uma Thurmans best performance ever. TAPE may be short and stagey at times but its unforgettable and has so many little hints in the script to further analysis that each time you watch it there is a new take on the whole situation.

congrads penelope

Penelope Cruz took home the Goya for best actress the other night (Spain's version of the Oscars) for the movie VOLVER which I have been a big advocate of , it also won best movie of the year and best director.
----> that award looks heavy.

look whose back!

My favorite crazy sexy hottie on this semi-new take on the challenge. 6 new people vs. 6 veterans road rules style. Make it exciting Veronica ;)

sags

Not everyone was there, but they used good clips, a good tribute to Julie Andrews and some funny moments from Steve Carrell but otherwise....Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker and Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson won...no suprises there...but an unpleasant suprise was Little Miss Sunshine taking home best ensemble. I hope Babel can still pull through in the end. I'm just getting bored here. Abigail is cute.

IRONMAN....lookin pretty awesome

I know I know...this movie wont be out for a year and a half but there is already promo posters and I am so excited. I don't know to much about the old IRONMAN comics but this is the kind of cast that will drag me straight into the theatre regardless of the film. Terrance Howard! Robert Downey jr. and MY LOVE...Gwenyth Paltrow

he exists!

The first glimpse of Britney's second child (Jayden James--he is the one on the right that she is not holding) was released yesterday. She can be seen in the dance studio rehearsing with both of her sons! Exciting....I hope she is getting back on track.

good movies opening this weekend....

NOT!

Another slew of mediocre junk....EPIC MOVIE..which you can find on my blog i've posted about that trash before. BLOOD AND CHOCLATE..great title? That'll bring in huge box office numbers...! SMOKIN ACES--this movie looks so cool...and hip...try a little harder.. NOT!...and of course CATCH AND RELEASE...poor Kevin Smith embarasses himself and does anyone else just despise Jennifer Garner like I do?

So there ya go...steer clear yet again and go see some of the movies i've told you are good or anything nominated for an oscar. And incase you haven't seen THE DEPARTED yet..its re-released this weekend so go see it!

Eastwood is God

(9/10)

I finally saw Letters From Iwo Jima today. I loved it. Clint Eastwood manages to let you see WWII from a completely different angle and almost makes you forget what side you're supposed to be on...because in fact, who needs to be on any side? War is pointless, we are all so similar we can't see straight. This movie is a brilliant, moving epic of the most sincere and fatal war times. If you like a superb war movie that is somewhat light on action and more heavy on emotion and masterful cinematography, check this out. You will be riveted, and dont mind the subtitles.

This now means I've seen all the nominated films for best picture oscar! :)

For my fans

I totally forgot that STEP UP would of been on my worst of 2006 list but since that particular scene I did was discovered upon the dvd release....I garnered a soft spot for the movie. It also has many fans and the movie has jumped started my career to new heights and I'm thankful for all the postive feedback.
Bmore represent..
;) ha.

what a cool movie poster

I've seen a trailer for Bullocks new movie and it doesn't look half bad but with thrillers these days and her string of bad movies ..you never know! But I will admit this is one of the coolest movie posters I have ever seen!!! Can you spot her face? Ha.

**After the golden globe nomination and oscar buzz I finally got my hands on this hard to find movie.**

What a downer. Sometimes though, you need to see movies like these to remind yourself how lucky you are in life. Maggie Gyllenhaal gives a career defining performance in this little seen movie. She plays Sherry, a woman plagued with a past full of drug abuse and family problems. After getting out of jail she attempts to reunite with her 5-yr old daughter. The journey is not an easy one and I'm sure many people may not have made it all the way through this film. The power of this story causes one to feel incredibly sad and even more so because we know that given the circumstances, Sherry most likely can't handle taking care of a young child. As a viewer, I kept pining for a breakdown monologue or something quite cliche from Sherry, I needed something else to push me over the line and really get drawn into the story but somehow its what Sherry doesn't say that makes the most impact. Little nuances give us all the clues we need to realize that she has never been given the chance to live a normal life. The supporting cast does a decent job but theres no room to stand out when Gyllenhaal eats up every scene shes in and a vast amount of nudity doesn't hurt either though her body is beautiful we are distracted by the pain shes going through and its hard to see her in the desparity of these sexual situations. Flaws aside, I'd certainly recommend this movie if only because its a film where the movie IS the performance. This is the real, gritty deal though...because we won't be getting the ending we want but the one that's bound to happen.

wow...shocking

But hey, atleast people can stop saying the oscars are rigged/predictable. They straight up snubbed DREAMGIRLS for best picture and best director. While I wish 'dream' was there instead of the unbelievably overrated Little Miss Sunshine. I am still happy to see the other four nominations : Babel, The Departed, The Queen and Letters From Iwo Jima.

Suprises: Ryan Gosling (the notebook) snuck in for best actor nomination for his little-seen (but soon to be seen on dvd) movie called HALF NELSON

-- Also...upstageing Jack Nicholson AND BRAD PITT...Marky Mark finally gets his due for the departed and is nominated for best supporting actor.

see full list here:

I am also so freakin happy that LITTLE CHILDREN got nominated for best actress, best supporting actor AND best screenplay...perhaps the curse will be broken and people will get to see this great movie!

Monday, January 22, 2007

No these two pictures are not related....haha

Behold. A movie you wouldn't think i'd be excited for. This show has managed to crack me up several times over and I'm excited for the movie to come out Febuary 23rd...to see these crazy characters in Miami should be tons o' fun! Who knows what the quality of the movie will be but they came this far so we'll see

AND THE OSCAR NOMINATIONS ARE ANNOUNCED TOMMOROW MORNING....I'll let ya know if any suprises occur.

.... now..goodnight forreal.

just a case of the mundays

Well at school the film department got a huge shipment of El Labiernto Del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) Posters and I was lucky enough to snag one and it will look awesome in my room ( I also ordered a BABEL one...huge dork) Anyway I also rented one of Guillermo Del Toro's earlier films of the same nature called The Devil's Backbone. Not an easy watch and equally disturbing/violent but a great story nontheless with some of the best child actors i've ever seen. I was glued to the screen. I tried to get out to see LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA today but am way to tired.

In Britney news....heres a cute pic of her and sean p walking around and then theres a pic of Kanye going into the studio to work with her on her album, I think Pharrell was there to...nice.

Goodnight

B is for BABEL

Wow. Blown away. I don't know how I let this one slide by me. Like many other films this year, marketing has been slummin. So what better way to pick up business? Win a golden globe for best picture! That's what got me out to the theatre. And I also hadn't known previously that this film was directed by Alejandro GonzƔlez IƱƔrritu, who directed 21 grams, one of my favorite movies. Anyway BABEL is a tough watch but well worth the energy that one puts into it. Four stories intertwine beautifully to express human conditions and culture in the most vast and at times small aspects of the world. Superb performances throughout, most notably Rinko Kikuchi as a deaf-mute Japanese girl. And Brad Pitt is at one of his finest moments here. Dramatic, Suspenseful and Unforgettable. Please see Babel...little did I know that this would be the one to top my best of 06 list before...I hope this is a swift road to oscar glory.

WARNING

Just wanna give you guys a heads up again to the fact that you shouldn't be spending your hard earned money on crappy remakes.

Heres an excerpt from Justin Putnam (http://www.themovieboy.com/): At the core of "The Hitcher," though, is a motion picture remake that is redundant and suspiciously unfeeling, an amped-up empty shell of its former self. There is no denying that the movie can get your adrenaline flowing in quick spurts—there are at least three fabulous jump scares—but it lacks empathy for its central characters and is missing a point behind its nonstop carnage. When the exploding brain matter and spurting blood clears, all that is left to observe is that 1986's "The Hitcher" did it better the first time around.

yeah so there ya have it. if u want the movies message- its just not to pick up hitchhikers so no big deal. go see something good.

haha

maleficent wasn't playin games was she? crazy bitch.

too much time on my hands

but seriously...how good?!?!
haha my inspiration was reading on the IMDB forum about the movie and some bitch was like "Am I the only one who gets deeply disturbed by this movie? I mean, this movie is too dark and disturbing. I think I even used to have nightmares because of this movie (didnt we all?). I do see this movie as Disney horror. The darkness here is too much. I consider this the darkest, creepiest and scariest Disney movie ever. It is also the most disturbing of all."
:)

Halloween remake is delayed

Ok so first and foremost..THANK GOD! Apparently the first draft of Rob Zombie's script was reviewed and pretty much torn to threads...lets hope the re-writes go bad and this movie gets sent into oblivion.

the best of the best

Oh check out Jack and Rose 10 years later.

the worst movies of 2006

Yeah why not? Though I now distance myself from what I know is pure garbage, I managed to sneak into a couple stinkers this year. I am happy and refreshed to say I had a hard time even remembering these or making a list cuz I really didn't see much of the pooptastic movies.

THE WORST:

1. Black Christmas- why why why why why :( :( :( :(! I loved the original 1974 version of Black Christmas and I've always hoped to be a part of or just see a remake or similar kind of story to be respectfully put on screen and what do they do? Make the most garbage movie I've ever seen. AND WHAT WAS WITH THE INCEST? Unnecessary.

2. Big Mammas House 2 -- Ok my ass had to watch this like 10 times on the way to cancun and back...really? Do they want us to jump out of the plane?! Its just so bad....and I don't even know If I had the headphones on.

3. Santa Clause 3- I didn't even watch all this one..someone made me go into the theatre while I was waiting for Casino Royale and its just so sad to see Tim Allen suffering through this rehash for no reason. This franchise has seen its end.

4. American Dreamz- What a dissapointment. I was actually really looking forward to this one...it ended up being one of the biggest bombs of the year and I just was not amused.

5. The Quiet- Though some argue this movie is meant to be bad and over the top. It was just bad and over the top...without the so bad its good quality. Oh and more incest..sorry but the US doesn't know how to work incest into a plot without it being completely outrageous and overracted...not that incest ever needs to be on film but you know what I mean?

close call: The Benchwarmers

strangers with candy

(5/10)

I rented this movie because there was nothing in the store that I wanted to see and me and eryn were bored from playing Mario Bros (super ninento represent..aint no other). I had never seen the short lived tv show on comedy central (1999 to 2000) but I knew it had a huge cult following. I was happy to be introduced to this original and well, insane character that Amy Sedaris portrays. Jerri Blank is a 47 yr old crack whore just released from jail to find out that her father is in a coma. In order to bring her father back to consciousness, she tries her best to get back on track and enrolls as a freshmen in high school. Hilarity ensues...ok not really. As you view the movie you think this is all just brainless nonsense with clever lines here and there BUT its actually a satire on our country today and the morals we all try to live by. But the "tv" vibe just sticks around and to much is wasted on an ridiculous science project sub-plot. I don't know maybe I jsut didnt get the humor. Anyway...your a racist.

yawn....

nothing to exciting this year. they didnt hesistate to play the music during the final hour to rush ppl off stage but they let kyra sedgewicks boring ass talk and talk and talk in the beginning? anyway. meryl streeps speech was awesome- the way she admits that a movie like 'devil' is seen by millions and distributed nationwide yet some of the best movies are never seen because of only being in a few theatres. JHud and Eddie Murphy won best supporting awards for da dreamgurls...which also won best comedy/musical...not suprising i guess....but the biggest suprise? BABEL winning best picture drama?! over the departed and the queen?? wow...im goona have to see that now! quite an upset but we'll see how much the golden globes predict this year when it comes to the SAGs and Oscars. ehh what else? jlo, reese, jess biel looking hot as ever...im goona go to bed. schools back in session tommorow. ick.

bling BANG

(8/10)

Just got back from seeing BLOOD DIAMOND and I sure am happy I went because I didn't think I was going to catch this one in theatres. This is certainly a movie that one needs to be pushed to see because like myself, the trailers didn't really come off as to exciting. I won't go into a full review as this film was released a month ago but its worth seeing. The directors ability to blend action with importance really makes this one stand out because without the commentary on the world today spread throughout, this would simply be a pretty mindless thriller. Tension is here but emotions run dry for some reason. The plot is jumbled but the way the scenes flow make the movie work better as a whole, especially since its long, over 2 hours but you rarely feel it. The score is perfect and the scenery is beautiful. Foreshadowing and contrasts help the audience to not sway off track. The final 20 minutes do tend to drag but its all necessary and Leo, Djimon and Jennifer give powerful performances. Blah blah....tv time.

the golden globes are tonight

you guys should watch. sometimes its kind of fun... NBC at 8pm!

i dont see any suprises happening tonight. except that the devil wears prada could possibly beat out dreamgirls for best comedy/musical catergory. ill discuss more after i watch.
but otherwise- the departed for best drama!

box office

another boring weekend.....another handful of bombs. stomp the yard opening number one with 22 million? ...wow.

atleast freedom writers in its second weekend did better than alpha dog.

and night at the musuem is making some money!!!--why?

next weekend ---the hitcher opens! ...exciting? NOT ..another remake that none of u know is a remake. dont see it.

epic movie

Does this not look like the biggest heap of shit in the world? Make fun of bad movies...not good ones. Its quite sickening to already see a horrendous Borat impression...this movie was probably thrown together in the matter of weeks, esp since Borat hasn't been out for even 3 months yet. I will hunt down anyone who spends money on this movie.

Britney is chillin

Hanging out with her boy...need to see more of this..until some good news/album talk. Enjoy ....

I just wanna say....

Being from Baltimore-- I can't help but shout out a "better luck next year" to my home team..the ravens... none of us want to talk about it.

The last two masterpieces of 2006

I have to say this- after The Departed pretty much scared the crap out of the studios- any other oscar contender lost several chances. I'm not only talking of Babel, Children of men...etc but Little Children for instance- a remarkable film- has lost all chances of being a front contender at this years awards. The marketing on this film has been awful(save for one of the best trailers ive ever seen) , shame on new line for letting this one go....theres still hope for acting nominations for Kate Winslet and Jackie Earl Haley. I suggest anyone who liked AMERICAN BEAUTY to check this one out. A disturbing and beautiful picture that deserves to be seen.

Pan's Labyrinth, another amazing foriegn film this year. Though the hype may mislead some people- this movie is not all fantasy and is mainly a hardcore war drama seen through the eyes of a young girl. Guillermo Del Toro(Blade 2) does a brilliant job of distinguishing fantasy/reality. Some may object to this, saying the ending is left to interpretation but to each his own because regardless of how we view what plays out on screen, nothing can deny the unforgettable climax. One of the most original and yes, terrifying movies i've seen in a long time! I'd be happy to see this film or VOLVER take home best foreign film this year.

But that's what in a way brings these seemingly different films together. They both manage to be dark and gut-wrenching but beautiful and filled with humanity at the same time. I've had to travel to pain in the ass D.C to see both of these but they should be finding their way to more theatres soon and I'd suggest seeing them.

alpha puppy...

3/10

This movie was atrocious! I do not regret my choice to support the film and give it a shot but sadly at the halfway point I realized why this film has had so much trouble taking off in the first place.(the release date and production times have been pushed back for awhile now) So Its 1999 in SoCo and some kids don't know how to keep their mouth shut and stop doing drugs. Anyway, ends up someone steals someones younger brother that they got beef with and chaos ensues. The inevitable conclusion, which proves poignant, is still not enough to save this film. Nick Cassavetes (John Q, The Notebook) still has potential for better films left in him but here he wastes his time on ogling the attractive young cast and uneeded split screen shots. Most films based on true stories (Coincidentally. Freedom Writers was also a true story) have a saving grace or spark that ignites life onto the screen but not in this case. The quality acting is pretty slim pickens across the board. Emilie Hirsh who has shined in previous roles slips up here while trying to hard to be a gangster, his nickname "midget" serves him well as in he was miscast. Sharon Stone and Ben Foster turn in some of most over the top performances I've seen in ages. Though Sharon is given a chance to stand out toward films end, she is upstaged by one of the most horrendous fat suits I've seen in a long time. The lone soldiers here are the new comers- Justin Timberlake and Anton Yelchin who performances rise above the other veterans. And in a better film, the final encounter between those two may have driven me to tears. ALPHA DOG has been done before, and better by Larry Clark in 2001's BULLY. There's no need to turn my review into a further bash fest so I'll rest my case and leave it at this- this movie is solely for hardcore Justin fans, otherwise wait for video or spend your money otherwise...but hey, not on drugs;)

Freedom Writers

(8.5/10)

My first review of 2007 and my first reviewed to be posted on da world wide webs.

Its rare that we encounter a movie that can bring us tears, laughter and inspiration. FREEDOM WRITERS succeeds in all those territories without manipulating the audience. The true story is about Erin, a young woman beginning her first job as a teacher in an area that most new teachers wouldn't dare step foot in. What we get is a two hour+ journey into the minds and hearts of these high schoolers whose lives will be changed forever. Minor complaints aside, the movie works on all levels. The pacing and organization of the characters fall into place delicately instead of being hard to follow. Swanks prescence elevates the movie to way above average, her portrayal of Erin is at times cute and funny while at other times heartbreaking, as she tends to forget that just because some of her students live miserable lives doesn't mean that her life is perfect as well. It is also funny to watch the 90's put on display as nostaglic here. Overalls? Check. Tupac? Check. You name it, the soundtracks got it down. Put this one up there with Half Nelson and Dangerous Minds or perhaps even higher than those two. After seeing this film, you yourself may want to pick up a book or two again and be grateful for the life you have.
