"Old Boy" movie speculated as Va. Tech gunman's inspiration

BAKERSFIELD - Was Virginia Tech gunman Cho Seung-Hui inspired to carry out his massacre in part by an ultra-violent South Korean movie? Some suspect the answer is yes.
As investigators review 28 video clips and the 43 photos Cho sent to NBC before he set out to commit mass murder, comparisons are being drawn between some of Cho’s photos and a popular South Korean film called “Old Boy.”
The award-winning film made in 2003 is about a man unjustly imprisoned who seeks vengeance on those who held him captive.
An ad for the film shows the main character wielding a hammer, and many of Cho’s disturbing self-portraits seem to copy the ads.
Also in “Old Boy,” the character becomes totally alienated from people, so he learns to befriend something else.
The narrator says, “My advice is you make friends with television.”
Cho, too was alienated, without friends, and his final message was sent to a television network—NBC.

It is a fact that children imitate violence they see on the screen.
Instead of the family members of the victims of the worst massacre in U.S. history
suing the campus, they should sue The Major Studios that *manufacture* the violence
that children see and imitate in the media.
Seung-Hui Cho was a 23 year old child, in all sense of the word since the majority
of 23 year olds in the U.S. are still living with their parents.
A message needs to be sent to the studios, stop manufacturing this stuff. And that message can only be sent
by class action suit.
