Wow. Blown away. I don't know how I let this one slide by me. Like many other films this year, marketing has been slummin. So what better way to pick up business? Win a golden globe for best picture! That's what got me out to the theatre. And I also hadn't known previously that this film was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, who directed 21 grams, one of my favorite movies. Anyway BABEL is a tough watch but well worth the energy that one puts into it. Four stories intertwine beautifully to express human conditions and culture in the most vast and at times small aspects of the world. Superb performances throughout, most notably Rinko Kikuchi as a deaf-mute Japanese girl. And Brad Pitt is at one of his finest moments here. Dramatic, Suspenseful and Unforgettable. Please see Babel...little did I know that this would be the one to top my best of 06 list before...I hope this is a swift road to oscar glory.
